Why I like the video game Treasure Island

Emily
Treasure Island is a great video game where you explore an
island and try to find gold. My uncle gave it to me for my
birthday last year. What I like best are the computer graphics,
and the music is cool, too. At the beginning, it was easy, but it
soon became more difficult. Sometimes you have to run away
from monkeys that throw bananas at you!

Jack
Treasure Island is one of the best video games I know. It was
hard when I first started to play it, but now I’m really good at it.
I loved listening to the music when I first got the game, but it
soon became boring, so I turn it off when I play now. I like the
game best when I play it by myself, but it’s also awesome to
play with friends.

Olivia
I’m not really a fan of video games, but I enjoy Treasure
Island. My favourite thing is the music. Most games like this
are difficult to play, but not this one. It’s great when you find
the gold! I think it’s more fun to play with other people, but I
can also play it alone, if I’ve got nothing else to do.

Interview with Dan Brooks

by Ella, aged 10

Last week, our class visited Brooks Zoo. The Brooks

family opened it 50 years ago, and Dan has worked
there since he was 18. He has been its manager for
20 years. Our class asked Dan these questions.

Can you tell us about the first animals in your zoo?

When my grandparents opened the zoo, there were already lots of zoos with
elephants, so they decided to have bears. Later, they got more animals,
including tigers.

How did you become the manager?

When I started at the zoo, my grandma was the manager. Then she gave the
job to my dad. He did it for a few years, but then he offered the job to my older
sister. She wasn’t interested, so I became the manager!

What do you enjoy about your job?

I like talking about the animals to people who come to the zoo. And it’s fun
photographing the animals for the website. But my favourite part of the day is
when I wash the animals, and give them their food and medicine.

What plans do you have for the zoo?

We’re always trying to improve it. Last year we built a café and a new gift shop.
My next plan is a classroom with big screens where people can learn about the
wonderful world of animals!
